Last week I e-mailed DCI asking why drum corps instruments - bugles - are silver and not brass-colored. Someone once told me that the sound quality of the silver instruments is brighter than the brass-colored ones. But if that were true, why do no professional musicians use silver horns? I didn't get an answer from DCI, so I e-mailed Michael Boo. He didn't know, either. So he posted the question on http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/. A couple of people answered. The most logical reason being that in the old days, the instruments were made out of nickel. They were more durable and could withstand years of outdoor use - as opposed to the brass instruments where the lacquer would peel off after a couple of seasons.
Anyway. Here is today's cool shirt. It's one of my best sellers. Great for marching bands and drum corps. You're not wrong. The field is lined wrong!
